Doctoral Researcher in Functional Cancer Biology (m/f/d)

The Georg-Speyer-Haus in Frankfurt am Main, Institute for Tumor Biology and Experimental Therapy, is an academic non-profit research institute supported by the Federal Ministry of Health and the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Arts and Culture. The institute is dedicated to basic and translational cancer research in the context of the tumor microenvironment and closely cooperates with the Goethe University Frankfurt and the Frankfurt University Hospital. It provides access to a broad variety of core facilities and an excellent scientific environment.

We are seeking a Doctoral Researcher (m/w/d) to join the lab of Marco Seehawer at the Georg-Speyer-Haus Institute for Tumor Biology and Experimental Therapy, pursuing functional characterization and validation of histone modifiers and their role in tumorigenesis and plasticity.

Doctoral Researcher in Functional Cancer Biology (m/f/d) Project description

Our lab aims to understand the impact of commonly mutated histone modifiers on cancer. We want to identify mechanisms which turn normal cells into cancer cells and help them to progress and become more aggressive. We will similarly focus on histone biology and molecular cell biology to comprehensively unravel those mechanisms. At the same time, we want to develop combination therapies aiming at histone modifiers, eventually supporting their potential in clinical use.

To drive such projects in our lab, you will perform functional molecular biology and cell culture experiments combined with comprehensive characterization using state-of-the-art sequencings, which you will analyze yourself. You will conduct CRISPR screens and utilize genetic and epigenetic perturbations in in vitro and in vivo mouse models to validate your findings, which you will present in internal and international meetings and peer-reviewed publications.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in cell biology, life sciences or comparable areas.
• Strong interest in cancer research, experience in epigenetics, breast- or bladder cancer welcome but not necessary.
• High motivation, curiosity, proactivity, and creativity.
• Willingness to engage in a collaborative environment.
• Proficiency in English.
