Senior Product Owner (100% Remote Germany)

About the role

We’re hiring a Senior Product Owner for our Innovation Team — a broad, end-to-end product role focused on shaping, validating, and delivering new product capabilities that can materially impact Matomo’s future.

This team operates differently from our Core teams. You will work closely with the CTO, CPO and Product Manager , combining strategic direction with customer and market insight to explore opportunities, develop them into real products, and carry them through to meaningful outcomes .

The work spans a spectrum:

• Early-stage experiments and proof of concepts

• MVPs and first releases

• Longer-lived product initiatives that may remain within the team for some time before transitioning

Success in this role means being able to navigate this full lifecycle effectively — from shaping ideas through discovery, to driving delivery, to deciding when work is ready to scale within Core or Growth teams.

This is a role for someone who can operate with high ownership, sound judgement, and pace , while working closely with senior leadership and engineering to turn ideas into real impact.

• Work closely with the CTO/CPO and Product Manager to shape and refine product direction

• Translate strategic ideas into clear product opportunities, bets, and deliverables

• Lead discovery efforts , combining customer insight, product understanding, and data where appropriate

• Create lean product briefs, user flows, and wireframes to align teams quickly

• Collaborate day-to-day with the Engineering Manager and engineers to explore solutions and manage trade-offs

• Own and actively manage the team’s backlog , ensuring:

  • Clear prioritisation aligned to strategic direction and current bets

  • Work is well-defined, appropriately scoped, and ready for development

  • Continuous grooming and refinement as priorities evolve

  • Drive delivery across a range of work types:

    • Early-stage experiments and proof of concepts

    • MVPs and initial product releases

    • More developed features requiring sustained iteration

    • Break down complex ideas into clear, iterative deliverables

    • Make informed calls on what to pursue, iterate, pause, or stop

    • Ensure successful initiatives are positioned for handoff to other teams when appropriate

    • Maintain momentum and clarity across ambiguous and evolving problem spaces

• Outcome-driven and pragmatic — focused on delivering meaningful results, not just activity

• Well-rounded product operator — comfortable across discovery, definition, and delivery

• Strong judgement — able to make sound decisions with incomplete information

• Technically and analytically confident — comfortable with data-heavy concepts, analytics, and product trade-offs

• Highly numerate — able to reason clearly about metrics, performance, and impact

• Collaborative — able to work closely with senior stakeholders, engineers, and designers

• Clear communicator — brings structure and clarity to complex ideas

• Adaptable and resilient — comfortable shifting between experimentation and more structured delivery work

• 4–6+ years experience as a Product Owner or similar role in a B2B SaaS or technical product environment

• Proven ability to work across both discovery and delivery

• Experience collaborating closely with engineering teams on technically complex products

• Demonstrated ability to translate high-level ideas into actionable product increments

• Experience creating user flows, wireframes, or early-stage product concepts

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

• Degree in a numerate or technical discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)

• Experience working on analytics platforms, tracking technologies, or data-heavy products

• Experience with AI/ML solutions in a SaaS product

• Familiarity with privacy, compliance, or EU regulatory environments (e.g. GDPR, ePrivacy)

• Experience working in innovation-focused or exploratory product teams

• Proficiency in using AI-accelerated techniques within product development , including:

  • Rapid ideation and exploration of product concepts

  • Drafting product briefs, user flows, and specifications

  • Analysing customer feedback or usage data

  • Increasing speed and quality of iteration and decision-making

• You will work across the full product lifecycle , not just a single phase

• You will collaborate closely with CTO-level leadership on shaping direction

• You will operate in a team that balances exploration, delivery, and iteration

• You will help define what becomes part of Matomo’s future product offering
