Data Scientist – Lab Automation - VIE Contract

iMove, the Sanofi VIE Program, is available to citizens of the European Economic Area (EU + Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland) aged between 18 and 28.

About the job

As Data Scientist – Lab Automation VIE within our Research & Development Laboratory team, you will support the team in automating and digitalizing laboratory data processes for High-Throughput Screening within our Sequence Biology team in Frankfurt. You will implement automated data handling workflows and collaborate with the development team to design and optimize lab automation processes, helping to bridge scientific needs and technical solutions. Close collaboration with lab operators, lab scientists, and data scientists is a central part of this role.

Main responsibilities:

• Support the team by setting up and maintaining sample tracking and sample management systems.
• Develop and maintain scripts for input/output file handling and data processing pipelines for automated lab systems.
• Collaborate with the development team to define and design automated data workflows and system requirements.
• Support hit selection by preparing and structuring analysis-ready datasets.
• Take ownership of data uploads to internal databases, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Contribute to the architecture and continuous improvement of lab automation processes as part of the development team.
• Work closely with lab operators, lab scientists, and data scientists to align on data requirements and ensure smooth workflows.

About you

Experience:

• Experience with R and data visualization tools.
• Familiarity with lab automation systems (Hamilton, Tecan).
• Experience with Git, LIMS, or ELN platforms.

Soft and technical skills:

• Proficiency in Python and SQL / relational databases.
• Analytical mindset and structured way of working.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across diverse teams and disciplines – including lab operators, scientists, and data scientists.
• Interest in collaborative system design and working within a development team environment.
• Team player with a proactive, hands-on attitude.

Education:

• Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Computational Biology, or related field.

Languages :

• Fluent English (written and verbal).
