Lead Architect - Infrastructure Design Consultancy (Qatar)

Job Title: Lead Architect - Infrastructure Design
Department: Architecture & Urban Infrastructure
Location: Qatar
Reporting To: Design Manager / Engineering Director


Job Purpose

The Lead Architect is responsible for leading the architectural design and delivery of infrastructure-related facilities and buildings from concept to detailed design and construction support. The role requires technical excellence, multidisciplinary coordination, client management, authority approvals, and leadership of architectural teams to ensure projects are delivered in accordance with Qatar regulations, international standards, and client expectations.


The position focuses on infrastructure developments such as transportation projects, utility buildings, pumping stations, substations, district cooling plants, depots, tunnels, public realm developments, and associated municipal infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities

Architectural Design Leadership

• Lead the architectural design of infrastructure projects from concept through detailed design and tender documentation.
• Develop innovative, sustainable, and functional design solutions.
• Prepare and review architectural layouts, plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules, and specifications.
• Ensure architectural designs integrate effectively with civil, structural, MEP, landscape, and utilities disciplines.
• Conduct design reviews and technical quality checks before submission.

Infrastructure Facilities Design

Lead the design of:

• Pumping Station Buildings
• Water Reservoir Buildings
• Utility Buildings
• Electrical Substations
• District Cooling Plants
• Wastewater Treatment Facilities
• Metro & Rail Stations
• Bus Depots
• Operation & Maintenance Buildings
• Control Buildings
• Service Centres
• Public Realm Structures
• Highway Service Facilities
• Utility Tunnels
• Municipal Buildings
• Ancillary Infrastructure Facilities

Project Management

• Lead architectural teams across multiple infrastructure projects.
• Plan project resources and design schedules.
• Monitor project progress, deliverables, budgets, and quality.
• Coordinate design deliverables with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Participate in value engineering and constructability reviews.
• Identify design risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Client & Authority Coordination

• Attend client meetings and design review workshops.
• Present architectural concepts and technical solutions.
• Coordinate with government authorities for approvals.
• Support proposal preparation and technical presentations.
• Respond to client comments and authority review remarks.

Quality Assurance

Ensure compliance with:

• Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS)
• Qatar National Building Regulations
• Ashghal Design Manuals
• Qatar Civil Defence Requirements
• Qatar Sustainability Assessment System (QSAS/GSAS)
• International Building Code (IBC)
• NFPA Standards

• Universal Accessibility Requirements

BIM & Digital Engineering

• Lead BIM coordination for architectural disciplines.
• Ensure compliance with BIM Execution Plans (BEP).
• Coordinate model clash detection with other disciplines.
• Review Revit models before issue.

Team Leadership

• Mentor architects, BIM modelers, and CAD technicians.
• Conduct technical reviews and coaching sessions.
• Support recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.
• Promote best practices and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Architecture (Mandatory)
• Master's Degree in Architecture or Urban Design (Preferred)
• Registered Architect with a recognized professional body (Preferred)

Experience

• Minimum 12-15 years of architectural design experience.
• Minimum 5 years in a Lead Architect position.
• Extensive experience in infrastructure design consultancy.
• Proven experience delivering major infrastructure projects within Qatar or the GCC.
• Experience working on multidisciplinary engineering consultancy projects.
