The Faculty of Medicine of the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and the University Hospital Frankfurt, Department of Pediatrics (Director: Prof. Dr. Jan-Henning Klusmann) invite applications for the following position as civil servant or public employee starting as soon as possible:

Professor (W2) of Stem Cell Transplantation, Cellular and Gene Therapy

The professorship is based within the Department of Pediatrics and is responsible for

representing the full spectrum of stem cell transplantation, cellular and gene therapy in research, teaching, and clinical care.

We are seeking an outstanding and integrative individual with internationally recognized scientific and clinical expertise in the fields of stem cell transplantation and cellular/gene therapies. The successful candidate is expected to have a strong track record in the development and application of innovative approaches for the preclinical and clinical advancement of cellular immunotherapies. A primary focus should be on the treatment of oncological, hematological, immunological, and other serious diseases in children and adolescents.

Applicants must hold board certification in Pediatrics as well as subspecialty certification in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology. Demonstrated clinical experience in performing stem cell transplants and applying cellular and gene therapies in the pediatric setting is required.

The professorship is embedded in an internationally renowned and highly collaborative academic and clinical environment. Active participation in shaping and further developing interdisciplinary collaborations is expected—particularly within the Department of Pediatrics, which includes an internationally recognized focus on pediatric oncology and stem cell transplantation. Further collaborations are expected with the University Cancer Center Frankfurt (UCT), the LOEWE Research Focus CARISMa (for the optimization of CAR T cell therapies), and the Frankfurt Cancer Institute (FCI).

Prerequisites for appointment include a completed university degree in medicine, a doctorate (Dr. med. or equivalent), further academic achievements (e.g., habilitation, habilitation-equivalent achievements, (which may have been acquired in a junior professorship or outside of academia), as well as an internationally competitive research profile in the field of stem cell transplantation and cellular/gene therapies, demonstrated through successful acquisition of competitive third-party funding. Significant experience in leading research teams is expected. A strong commitment to teaching and substantial teaching experience are also required.

In addition to the general provisions of civil service law, the formal hiring requirements are defined in sections 67 and 68 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
