The Institute for Cardiovascular Physiology of Goethe-University has a strong focus on epigenetic processes in the cardiovascular system with emphasis on translation and novel mechanisms. The well-funded research institute at the Cardiovascular Center is a member of the DFG Excellence Cluster CPI, the German Center for Cardiovascular Research as well as the CRC TRR267 “Non-coding RNAs in the Cardiovascular System”, the SFB1531 “Damage control by the stroma-vascular compartment” and the LOEWE Center “Lipid Space”.

The Epigenetics/RNA working group, led by Prof. Ralf Brandes, is investigating how chromatin organization and non-coding RNAs influence gene expression and define the phenotype of vascular cells and tissues. We are particularly interested in the behavior of endothelial cells during angiogenesis and stress. We are seeking for

for two projects with a focus on

“ Epigenetic nuclear regulation by lipids and non-coding RNAs ”

Life Science, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or similar

to be filled for a period of 3 years (extension possible).

Methods used

• Cell culture systems, including IPSC, 2D, 3D culture, spheroid assays, migration and proliferation assays
• Gene expression modulation CRISPR/Cas9 (including knock-out, knock-in, CRISPRa, CRISPRi, viral vector systems)
• Next-generation sequencing (RNA-, ATAC-, ChIP-Seq, CUT&RUN, Hi-C and others)
• Pulldown and immunoprecipitation, cloning, RNA localization techniques

Qualification profile

• Successfully completed degree in biology, biochemistry, or a related field
• Interest in epigenetic mechanisms, RNA biology, translational research and bioinformatics
• Ability to work independently, team spirit, and enthusiasm for research
• Personal commitment and determination for the project
